All I can say is that when comparing the lyrics of, say, Justin Bieber's "Baby" to a classic love song of old, there is no comparison.

Bah, there are some amazing songwriters nowadays. I enjoy most of pop Quebec music, other than that I can totally listen to Jason Mraz and Bruno Mars. Mainstream stuff is still alright to me. One would have to explain me what isn't good to them in it, not to be called narrow-minded.

I'm fond of the current "singer-songwriter" contigent...Ingrid Michaelson, Priscilla Ahn, Duffy, Tift Merritt, stuff like that. The past decade's been good if you're into female-sung, (generally) piano-based, highly personal music.
