This is what cold means. - Lessinath - 18-Jan-2012 This is what cold is. Some of you may be familiar with winter in a northern climate, but for those of you who don't... Extreme cold warning from the national weather service in Fargo Grand Forks ND (fgf). This is for -15 to -25 degrees F (-26 to -31C) tempratures with -35 to -45 (-37 to -42C) wind chills. Of course, this is nothing exceptional for the people from this region, but everyone else may find it intresting. It's still "Throw a pot of boiling water in the air and it hits the ground as ice" cold. Yes, you can really do that. Now, I'll make clear I don't live in North Dakota, but I've got to travel out there in the next few days so I was checking the forcast. Here those wind chills are only -10 to -15. But I'll be honest - if it's -30 with no wind, it's easy to stop the cold. The wind is what gets you. Here's my good opportunity to rant about how Fahrenheit bases it's absolute 0 point not at 0. It makes no sense - the lack of temperature entirely should be expressed as 0 and not a negative number. It makes me LOL at how such situations can happen in real life because we've all gotten used to such a system - at least Celcius bases it's 0 point at something that makes much more sense. |
