Cause everything's bigger in Texas....so in comparison he's shorter.

Uhm I don't get the reasoning, but fine.

I love things that make no sense!

Yeah.

Anyways...what's new in your guy's lives? (new topic FTW)

The weather's in the 70's here. Therefore, I have spent most of my time outside (this being the time that I'm not at my job). Needless to say, I'm not terribly productive.

It's more fun to get drunk in the summer than it is in the winter. The heat gets you drunker quicker. Best of all is drinking on an empty stomach while standing in the sun. Not that I'm encouraging such behaviour, of course. Just an observation.

Oh, and I was digging around my apartment, and I found $50 worth of unused Amazon gift cards. I was excited about that until I realized that I didn't have anything in particular that I want to spend it on. I might splurge for an Elvis boxset that I've had my eye on for some time. Elvis Presley, that is. Good stuff. Damn good stuff. I wish I was a teen in the late 60's (the Comeback Special...holla!).

I must build a fortress before I say this.....

Elvis is overrated....

The Wannabe Longest Thread - rockdet - 20-Mar-2012

That ain't true, but not for the reasons you're thinking. Elvis had made the most of his career in the '40s and the '50s but people always associate him with the period in which he was in terrible health at the end of his life. THAT IS NOT ELVIS.

Lemme reformulate your thing: End-life Elvis is overrated. This I can agree. But you can't touch the awesomeness he was in his golden years.

What did he do in the 40's, besides sing Old Shep at a county fair and win 5th place? Wink

Eh, he still had "it" at the end, even if it was sporadic. Then again, it was always sporadic...even at Sun he was recording total schlock. Some of his greatest performances came near the end of his life: Unchained Melody (the undubbed version), Moody Blue, Way Down, My Way (the live versions), etc.

I don't think it's possibly for end-life Elvis to be overrated; most people think of him as an overweight, doped-up, jumpsuit-wearing fool in the 70's. But his golden era was 1968-1973, imo. Starting with the Comeback Special and ending with Aloha From Hawaii, nearly everything he touched during that period was gold. And yes, I love the Vegas albums like "On Stage."

Anyway, Dave, you're free to call Elvis (or anyone else) overrated without building a fortress around yourself. Elvis may be canonized, but so what? Who cares about the rock canon? Listen to what you like, not what you're "supposed" to like.
