The Official Birthday Thread! - IceyLava108 - 26-Nov-2012 Quote:Happy birthday, Michael! ! The Official Birthday Thread! - BigOto2 - 05-Jan-2013 Who does math that way anymore, anyway? Elementary schoolchildren? I'd rather get detention than lose my rights to use a calculator like everyone else does in REAL LIFE. The Official Birthday Thread! - rockdet - 06-Jan-2013 Actually, doing it in your head helps the concept of thinking and keeps your brain active, connections and all this fancy stuff so that you don't become retarded at the age of 55. (Maybe that escalated a lil' too quickly there, didn't it?) Anyway, I do the math in my head most of the time IRL. The Official Birthday Thread! - BigOto2 - 06-Jan-2013 Speaking of which, the Android alarm clock app that I mentioned in the other thread requires me to solve 4 math problems before any snoozing or turning it off. It's all good until I run into something multiplied by 13, which was the times table I never memorized. It takes about 40 seconds to do on average, which by that time, the music has played long enough to get me awake enough to get up right then. Okay, I forgot how much this thread was de-railed from the original discussion. The Official Birthday Thread! - Earthling - 06-Jan-2013 Quote:Who does math that way anymore, anyway? Elementary schoolchildren? LOL I was bored that morning... But that is quite useful when you don't have a calculator handy. The Official Birthday Thread! - Flareon350 - 06-Jan-2013 That's what the calculator is for on your computer ![]() The Official Birthday Thread! - Earthling - 06-Jan-2013 Quote:That's what the calculator is for on your computer Yeah, but I was bored that day. The Official Birthday Thread! - random 8 - 06-Jan-2013 Quote:LOL I was bored that morning... Even when you do have a calculator on hand, performing a calculation mentally may still be faster than the mere act of pulling out said calculator and plugging in the numbers. The Official Birthday Thread! - BigOto2 - 06-Jan-2013 Don't worry, I do math in my head a lot too when I don't have a calculator right there. ![]() The Official Birthday Thread! - rockdet - 06-Jan-2013 Also, I like the idea of a math alarm clock. Maybe I'd stop oversleeping with that. |
