CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - jblewis - 26-Apr-2013 Hello, Chipsters! The CCLP1 staff has been hard at work making preparations for the voting process, and now, we are pleased to share with you the aforementioned lists of levels that had been previously discussed here and on CCZone: The whitelist: This is the list of levels that are pretty much guaranteed a space on the CCLP1 ballot. You will see these levels in voting. There are nearly 50 designers represented here! Current count: 1,408 1,604. https://docs.google....k2NFd1TGc#gid=0 The blacklist: This is the list of levels that are currently marked for elimination based on the criteria mentioned in my previous posts on pre-voting elimination. Current count: 2,796 2,622. https://docs.google....JfRjJQQWc#gid=0 The limbo list: This is the list of levels that have compatibility, solvability, or bust issues (which are also detailed in the spreadsheet) and that would be whitelisted providing these issues are corrected before voting begins. We've tried to limit this list to the levels we believe would stand a chance in voting so that designers would not have to go through a bunch of unnecessary work. Current count: 91 32. https://docs.google....1TY2VqOWc#gid=0 The ineligible list: This is the list of levels that are ineligible by default for various reasons (which are detailed in the spreadsheet). I understand there are some new levels from sets that have since been added on to long after the submission deadline passed (such as Rosa1) but aren't listed here yet, so just for the sake of avoiding any potential confusion, I will be sure to add these in the days to come. Current count: 178 219. https://docs.google....ktM2xVNUE#gid=0 A few things to consider for the next few weeks: - These lists will not be set in stone until a yet-to-be-determined deadline before voting. This date will hopefully be no later than the end of May, but it will depend on how quickly designers address the issues on the limbo list and how the black-to-whitelisting nominations proceed (more details on that below). Be sure to watch for a subsequent announcement on when this date will be. Update: this date is June 1 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time. - As previously discussed, the community will have a part in determining the final say on what makes it into voting. This means that if you want to nominate a level that's currently on the blacklist to be moved to the whitelist, you are more than welcome to do so. The only stipulation we'd like to place on this, just for the sake of curtailing potential abuse of this privilege, is that a level would be whitelisted only when it receives two nominations from community members other than its designer. Designers can, however, campaign for any level(s) to be whitelisted to the rest of the community and present their reasons for why they believe those level(s) is or are deserving. We do, however, encourage everyone to be mindful of what they nominate. We don't want the whitelist to be overloaded, and we do hope to maintain the standard of quality that the levels currently on the whitelist exhibit. If you wish to nominate a blacklisted level, please consider how appropriate it would be for CCLP1, how enjoyable it is to play, and how well-designed it is, particularly in light of what's already on the whitelist. - As you'll notice, the levels are color-coded: there are "green," "red," and a small handful of "yellow" ones. "Green" levels are those that have no major compatibility, solvability, or bust issues that we've been able to find. "Red" levels have at least one of these issues, which are detailed in the "notes" column. Finally, "yellow" levels are the few that stumped or frustrated us so badly that we had to deem them far too difficult for CCLP1. If the future CCLP4 staff would like to try their hand at these, they are more than welcome to! The levels in the "ineligible" list are all colored grey by virtue of being ineligible for CCLP1 by default. - We spent a lot of time reviewing these levels, but we could have easily missed something. For instance, if a level contained so many invalid tiles that were so integral to the level concept such that it could never really be fixed for CCLP1, chances are that we didn't really dissect it much further past that. However, if you find any major issues, especially with a "green" level on the whitelist, please report it to me so I can move the level to the "limbo" list and contact its designer. - Any blacklisted level that receives the necessary nominations but is colored "red" will be moved to the "limbo" list until its issues are corrected. - I will do my best to keep up with the nominations, both here and on CCZone, and update the spreadsheets accordingly. I'll also post an ongoing list of levels that have received the necessary nominations here on CCZone, since posts there can be edited. - Have fun! While constructing these lists, we've done our best to be fair to everyone who submitted levels while maintaining the standard necessary to ensure that CCLP1 voting - and ultimately the set - contains the cream of the crop that our community has to offer at a difficulty reasonable for beginners. If one of your levels that you were really hoping to see in voting didn't make it into the whitelist, don't panic! As mentioned above, you can always campaign for this level to be nominated. - We've been taking your suggestions for how voting should proceed into consideration, and we think we've got a recipe that will address most of the concerns everyone brought forward. Stay tuned for more info! Update: we're going to be releasing the levels in packs of 50 with random, non-ordinal names. That's all for now! - J.B. I don't want to campaign that much, but I'm amazed my "14%" is on the blacklist (if you want to correct the situation, feel free to, I guess). I understand that some concepts like "The Seventh Bearded Lotus" or "Solomon's Sacred Chamber" may have missed the target, I'm perfectly fine by it. That's all I'll say for my own stuff, since I don't have the best arguments to support my claims, plus the fact that I didn't take the time to look at those lists entirely. What I can do though is support your campaign if I judge your level has been treated in a rude way (which is likely to happen, but don't expect garbage to pass!) CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - Flareon350 - 26-Apr-2013 I love a lot of my levels on the whitelist! Very nice! I'm disappointed to see Electromagnetic Elevator on the blacklist though. I vote for that to go on the whitelist. CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - jbdude55 - 26-Apr-2013 Firstly, thank you to all the CCLP1 staff for the hard work they've put in to make this possible. Must say I'm pretty satisfied with the placement of levels in my set (JRB_CCLP1). Most of the levels on the blacklist didn't come as much as a surprise (see ARENA and SAFARI), but I'm a bit sad to see CHASE on there. While going through the set I did notice a minor C/B issue with the W paramecium clone machine: the boss has been changed from the first fireball (moves W [16] out of [38] on it's path) to an isolated walker (W [1] out of [2] on it's path) - the walker can only move on ice, so no issue of it trying to move in blocked directions in Lynx (not sure why I didn't just use a pink ball tbh, but it's done). If BACKTRACK, THE LAB and SHUTDOWN are on the blacklist because of their difficulty, I can sort of understand, but personally I don't think they'd be out of place. I guess I'd encourage people to try them and tell me what they think, but if they belong on the blacklist, so be it. Have also changed some of the keys in THE ADVENTURE to reduce the risk of picking the wrong door and cooking the level. Not sure if this was why it was on the blacklist, and I'm not hugely bothered that it's there, but I decided I may as well change it anyway. Levelset updated here (V 1.2.1) and at the Yahoo group. CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - uyjulian - 26-Apr-2013 Wow, can't wait! CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - ajmiam - 26-Apr-2013 Thank you so much for putting this up, J. B. and all other staff members who helped work on this. I'm glad to see so many of my levels in the running. Just so you know, I updated Pit of 100 Tiles to fix the lack of a chip count in Level 43 (Checkmate?). Unfortunately, I don't think I can fix either of the problems in 41 or 79 without fundamentally altering the levels, so if those issues are real deal-breakers, go ahead and move those levels to the blacklist. (I noticed the issues during my initial testing, but I tried to help Lynx players in 79 by putting those chips near the teleport so they could stop and look for incoming monsters before proceeding. Also, I couldn't find a way to fix 41, and left the "bust" in because I considered grabbing the chip with perfect timing to be much harder than solving the puzzles in the northeast. Though since the "bust" is required for an optimal time, I can see why having the level in an official set would cause problems.) I'm kind of sad to see Outwit and Palace of the Pentablock Trials in the blacklist, but can understand why they are there. Also, I'm not entirely sure why "x times 2 to the n" is there. The note said it's too strict in Lynx, but I tested and got through the level with 43 seconds to spare. Part of the level's challenge lies in examining the ball clocks and deciding what order to start them in. In the best order, the west ball clock should be started second-to-last. On second thought, maybe 43 seconds to spare is a bit too tight for new players, or even experienced players who have never seen the level before...if you feel that is the case, leave it on the blacklist. However, one level I would really like to nominate for the whitelist is Josh Lee's "Duplex". It does have more blocks than you will ever need, but still, it's not trivial to solve, it takes strategy to deal with the monsters, the level design is unique, and it's just plain fun to be able to use blocks however you like without worrying much about running out. It was one of my favorites in JCCLP, and I think it's one of the best examples of a casual level done right. CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - KeyboardWielder - 26-Apr-2013 I've solved ArchieP1 #106, #112 and #135 in Lynx when I played the set long ago. Don't know if they were the intended solutions, and whether the levels have been updated since... I've e-mailed my copy of the set and solutions to J.B. - Madhav. CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - tensorpudding - 26-Apr-2013 I'm a bit sad that my Whitelisted levels include a number of really crummy ones that will not pass voting like Blocked Block and Winners Circle, while the majority of the "puzzle" levels I spent a lot more time designing are in the Blacklist. Well, but I'm happy having levels in the Whitelist, especially some of my good easy levels. CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - tensorpudding - 26-Apr-2013 I know most of Chip56 is available in the whitelist, but I feel like ANACONDA was one of the more fun levels in that set and I am curious why it was put on the blacklist. I would nominated for the whitelist. And I don't know why You Can Lead a Horse To Water from TS0 didn't make the cut. Is it really too hard for CCLP1? Likewise Metal Harbor. I thought a lot of the TS0 levels that did get in were more difficult, like Repugnant Nonsense. Also, TEMPLE OF NO KEY in ArchieP1 is listed as unplayable in Lynx, but I definitely was playing that level in Lynx yesterday. I wouldn't nominate it though. CCLP1 Voting Lists and Nominations - KeyboardWielder - 27-Apr-2013 Quote:And I don't know why You Can Lead a Horse To Water from TS0 didn't make the cut. Is it really too hard for CCLP1? Likewise Metal Harbor. I think YCLaHTW is probably hard for CCLP1; but I second the nomination for Metal Harbor ("as a later level maybe") and also nominate "Dig for Fire". - Madhav. |
