Why is there a "cancel" option while you're creating a new topic?

Picture this: you've just thought of the most amazing topic ever imagined in the history of the Internets (sic)(bear with me here). You've spent a good portion of your day typing out an insightful, original, thought-provoking post (bear with me here). Then you go to click "Preview Post," and instead, you click "Cancel."

Why does the "Cancel" option even exist? If you start to make a thread and then think better of it, it's not that hard to click back to the main forum (or to close the tab you're working in). I think the "Cancel" button just exists because the people who design forums secretly don't like people. Actually, it's really not that much of a secret, if you ask me. They make it fairly obvious. But they're tech geeks, and in 2012, tech geeks rule the world, so they don't fear much retribution.

Don't you hate it when that happens?
