F6 takes me to a random level in the set while F7 takes me back either 2 or 3 levels.

This is confusing is there a way to make them go forward and back just 1 level at a time?

That is exactly what F6 and F7 do, unless you're playing one of the CC2LP1 voting packs, where the level order is randomized.
