I think the big end is much more important. Cut it at the small end.

If a set doesn't have an extension, would it be okay to just leave it extensionless?

I have now closed the poll, as it's been a runaway. The option to keep both extensions in use was the favorite by a huge percentage.

There were some great posts that came with it, and I enjoyed learning what people think!
