When I was in school, I memorized the powers till 26, although I really think I should know them till 32 (what with the ubiquitous 4 GB limits on various stuff in the computing world). 24 and 25 look the best, IMO.

I once wrote down powers of 2 as a pastime...I reached about 2^450 or so. Unfortunately, I often made mistakes and had to check an online list. Fail

If you think that's geeky, I often work out the sin of 72 degrees algebraically for fun. Even made a video:

No! The last number was 2 sin (2/5 pi)! You were supposed to double that! geodave didn't double the last number, but I decided to ignore that and double his number anyway. Don't ignore me! :[
