January 2023 Create Competition - The Easy Way or The Hard Way?
Posted by: Sharpeye468 - 12-Jan-2023, 10:15 AM - Forum: Competitions - Replies (3)

A Create Competition is a level design contest where anyone can make a level or levels from a given prompt or theme, which are then judged and ranked, with feedback. Whether you're a veteran designer with hundreds of levels or have never made a level before in your life, your submission is welcome here!

This competition is once again hosted by everyone's favourite dynamic duo, Sickly & Sharpeye! This month's theme is a level that has two ways to solve it. As the title implies, an easy way, and a hard way!

The only stipulation I will include, is that the easy way has to be not completely trivial to solve (no AARGH style easy ways), and you can't simply have chip decide between walking into the exit or walking over a recessed wall with the only way being back to grab a key, or all the chips, etc. There should at least be some fun aspects to both of the solutions! I won't develop a distinct line on what's easy and what's hard (with difficulty being subjective!), that is left as an exercise to the reader.

While not a stipulation, it's still a general housekeeping note, Sickly and I have a combined IQ of 60. If we get OFNT difficulty levels (or even puzzles levels in my puzzle game??) we will likely have to refer to the attached solution instead of having the brain power to solve it for ourselves.

And finally, some administrative details:

Submit your level(s) to either Sharpeye468#9238 or A Sickly Silver Moon#4836 on Discord or by PM on the forums on or before February 14th(Heart). Extensions will be granted on a case for case basis if one is needed because there are creative ideas flowing, if someone cries enough, or if there are bribes delivered to both sickly and I.
Whilst you are technically allowed to submit unlimited levels, please note that we will only be judging your best two, so if you submit more you must note which they are.
Make new levels, its a create competition no a "who has a large catalog" competition.
Levels should be solvable, if its CC1 please include a TWS or JSON, for CC2 please record a replay for the level.
Sharpeye and I will be looking through the levels around the day of, most likely on a discord stream. Please don't make us get banned.
If you have any questions about the competition, if a level is legal, or anything of that sort, please don't hesitate to ask here or on Discord.
Finally, your levels only have to be solvable in as many rulesets as you choose (minimum 1 obviously), if you want to make an MS only level go right ahead. Lynx only? Right on! CC2/Steam only? It makes sense to me. But also do tell us what ruleset(s) each level targets, thanks!

  Argo's Challenge: A Pokémon-Themed MSCC Mod
Posted by: Bubbabyte - 11-Dec-2022, 5:32 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

This mod for MSCC changes the graphics, text, music, and sound effects to be Pokémon themed, while also including PGChip, T-Chip, ccpatch, and Fullsec baked in. Argo the shiny Slowbro (who is based on a shiny Slowbro I myself trained in the actual Pokémon series) must collect Leftovers (which is a reference to the item my aformentioned in-game Slowbro uses) and get to her Great Ball (again, a direct reference to the ball I caught the original Argo in) in a variety of levels in order to join Poik's club (Poik is the poorly-drawn Slowpoke in my profile icon). The included levelset is CCLP1, though, since this is just a modified version of MSCC, you can replace it with any levelset you want. Hope you all enjoy!

UPDATE (3/13/24):

I just realized that last time I updated this, the patch was broken and didn't work, so I've updated it again to include a working patch. Sorry about that everyone!

  JCCLP3.1
Posted by: Flareon350 - 10-Dec-2022, 1:35 PM - Forum: CC1 Level Packs - Replies (2)

This is JCCLP3.1 - a much needed, well deserved overhaul of JCCLP3 released back in April 2019! A lot of drastic changes have been made throughout this set, including lots of new levels, updates to some previously made ones, and a considerably steeper difficulty curve!

Still containing 149 levels, most of which were submitted for CCLP5 consideration.

I truly, truly believe these are the best of the best in recent years of my level design career.

--THE LEVELS--

JoshL6 (post-149) - 23 14 levels

An oldie at this point but it still deserved a decent amount of representation. These 14 included are what I believe to be my most favorite from this era.

JoshL7 - 43 24 levels

This set is among my most well received sets I've ever made and definitely the source of some of my most fun levels.

Walls of CCLP3 - 66 42 levels

The daunting walls of project that was somehow possible. While it left a lot to be desired with certain wall templates, what I've included from it is among the best of the best, and certainly some toughies too!

TradingPlaces - 15 33 levels

Originally containing 15 levels back when this set was in progress, it has since been completed and is now better represented here. This project was a ton of fun to work on with Jeffrey and holds some of the toughest stuff I've ever designed.

??? - 6 8 levels

The source of these eight is still pending. Could it be JoshL8? Most likely. But my design career has dropped off substantially as it's harder to design things now more than ever. But regardless of where these eventually end up, they're still fun and that's all that should matter!

WoCC1 - 28 levels

These levels come from the currently in progress collab set project with J.B. Lewis and VT. While it is incomplete, most of my third has been finished and I'm pretty confident what I have yet to design for it either won't happen for quite some time or won't be as good as these. Could've included more but what I have, are my proudest designs from this set. :) a lot of these are pretty tough so be sure to play till the end to experience them!

I hope you enjoy and have fun playing!

If you just want to play the new WoCC1 levels, they are as follows:

1, 11, 18, 23, 33, 34, 48, 58, 64, 75, 77, 84, 88, 90, 93, 105, 108, 114, 116, 120, 127, 137, 139, 143, 144, 146, 148

CC2 - Wing and a Prayer Bold Time
Posted by: vb3347 - 14-Nov-2022, 2:55 PM - Forum: High Scores - Replies (1)

Total newbie on this forum, although I played CC1 a ton back in the day. Anyway, I just set what I believe to be an improved bold time of 37 seconds on Level 110 (Wing and a Prayer) of CC2 on Steam. Not sure if I posted this in the right place.

  Pokémon Tileset
Posted by: Bubbabyte - 11-Nov-2022, 4:11 AM - Forum: Tilesets - No Replies

Hey all! I've recently started going down the Chip's Challenge rabbithole, so I decided to make a tileset that revamps the entire game to look like a Pokémon game. If you're on the Discord, you may know this particular tileset as the one that's gone through a billion revisions and spawned the "time to update Gliderbot!" meme, but I think I've finally perfected it, so enjoy!

50 Level CC1 Based on Original Sokoban Levels
Posted by: sokochips - 09-Nov-2022, 7:00 PM - Forum: CC1 Level Packs - Replies (5)

I've taken the 50 original levels of the 1980's Sokoban box pushing computer game and adapted it to Chip's Challenge. The levels require the same pushes as the original levels but I've added a few twists and miss directions to add new challenges to completing the sokoban levels. It is fully tested. Enjoy!

  CCLP5: Voting Begins!
Posted by: jblewis - 23-Sep-2022, 3:05 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (2)

Greetings, fellow Bit Busters!

We’re excited to announce that voting has officially begun!

https://bitbusters.club/cclp5/voting/

A few things we encourage you to keep in mind as you play through the levels:

- Each level pack will be provided to you in a random order. In order to unlock the next one, you will need to submit ratings on at least 40 levels in your current pack.
- Ratings are scaled from 1 to 5, with 0.5 increments.
- The goal is to provide an accurate representation of how much you’d like to see each level in CCLP5 based on as complete an understanding of each level as you can build. As much as you are able, please play through the levels in the actual game before you rate them. While tools like editors and emulations with undo features like SuCC and Lexy’s Labyrinth can be helpful, we encourage you to avoid using these as a shortcut to solving or understanding levels. If you absolutely find yourself stuck, feel free to use the provided solution files only as a last resort.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

CCLP5: New Staff Member + Voting Announcement!
Posted by: Flareon350 - 18-Sep-2022, 6:29 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

Hiya chipsters! You guessed correctly - it's CCLP5 announcement time! We have quite a bit to go through!

Before we dive into it, our sincerest apologies for holding everything up. Over the past few months, We've been very busy with ensuring solution files work and sync properly across every level submitted. This has proven to be more of a hiccup than we initially expected, thus took up more time than anticipated.

Because of this, we have very recently added a new member to the staff team - Jeremy Christman. Thanks to his excessive efforts and constant source of help he has given us with managing TWS files, among many other things, we felt he rightfully deserved a proper spot on our staff as opposed to an honorable mention later down the road. Without him, we'd still be stuck.

Next on the list: Shortly after level nominations ended, we gathered the general feedback during that time. Of the 151 levels that we were unsure about, 95 of those received nominations. We decided based on the feedback and upon much further review, we deemed all 95 of those levels to enter the voting pool. In addition, 32 levels from the "culled levels" tab were also included into voting, making a total of 127 levels that were added thanks to you, the community!

Now for the best part - Voting!

Since we have successfully ensured all solutions files work and sync properly across every level, 1,695 to be exact, we can finally get voting underway!

Voting will officially begin September 23, 2022 at 4pm EDT on bitbusters.club. Please make sure you've registered for an account at forum.bitbusters.club prior to voting! We will drop a separate brief announcement with links to the voting site and such when this time comes.

Thank you so much for your patience with us and let's get ready for some chipping!

- Josh
