  April 2013 - Create Competition
Posted by: Flareon350 - 30-Mar-2013, 5:37 PM - Forum: Competitions - Replies (53)

Alright guys it's not even April, but I'm gonna go ahead and announce the create competition for April now! It was a lot of fun hosting February's, and I'm sure it'll be just as much fun hosting this one! Slight smile

The theme for this month's create competition is to create a level based off a series of colors, in which you can use up to three different colors for your level.

--THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN MAKING YOUR LEVEL--

Level Requirements:

-Your level must be solvable in both MS and Lynx.
-Time limit must be at least over 500 seconds. No untimed levels.
-There needs to be at least 25 chips in the level. You have more if you wish, however, 25 must to be required.

-Your level must take up the entire map. Borders are always allowed.

-Your level can only use up to 3 different colors, going by the MSCC tileset. It can have only one or two if you wish to do so.

Level Rules:

-Levels already made can be sent in.

Bonus Points:

-Puzzles always add to your score! Come up with some clever ones!

-Combine two colors to make a single color!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't forget to make your level fun and enjoyable! Slight smile

Once you complete your level(s), send it to me at pkmndiamond493@live.com and I will go through all of them when I can. Be sure to make it clear who you are when sending your level.

-OVERALL RULES-

This competition will come to a close on May 2nd by 12:00am in your time zone. I will no longer accept levels at this point when it is this day in my time zone (PDT), and that is when I will start judging them.

If you feel the need to fix anything in your level, please feel free to do so and notify me of the changes, as well as sending me the fixed version. This also won't affect you or your entry in anyway. Just remember in the end only one level will be accepted so choose wisely when the time comes!

If there's something you don't understand, please post in this topic and I or another member will clarify for you.

Thank you everyone and have fun! Slight smile

I found out a way to get Chip's Challenge DOS port running on Windows, NO EMULATOR!
Posted by: uyjulian - 26-Mar-2013, 10:07 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Note: This does NOT work on 64-bit computers!

1) Get Chip's challenge DOS port from anywhere you want

2) Open the command prompt (cmd.exe)

3) CD to where the files are located

4) Hit alt-enter (This is important!)

5) Type loadfix chips and hit enter

6) Hit enter

7) Select these options

4 - VGA

A - roland

K - keyboard

8) Now hit enter

9) The game should have loaded

Enjoy Slight smile

For fast performance, close all programs.

Here's the controls:

x - Exit

h - Pause

spacebar - Next screen

Up - up

Down - down

Left - left

Right - right

To exit full screen, hit alt-enter (Note: the game will crash if you do this while the game is running)

  CC1: Blobs Edition
Posted by: Flareon350 - 26-Mar-2013, 12:08 AM - Forum: Level Discussion - Replies (20)

Discuss the unofficial edition of Chip's Challenge 1 here. Every monster in the set was replaced with none other than a Blob . Because of this - some levels are broken (Monster Lab, Morton, etc...), some levels are ridiculously hilarious (Lemmings, Metastable to Chaos, etc...), some levels are actually better (Oorto Geld, Roadsign, etc...), some levels that were timed originally were made untimed, (Go With the Flow, Beware of Bug, etc...) and some levels are more difficult (Lesson 5, I.C. You, etc...).

This set is NOT for serious gameplay. It was made purely for entertainment. If you do not like the idea of this set, simply don't play it, or download it for that matter. The idea was thought of by many of the members on the Skype chat, however, I am the one who modified the set. Of course I don't deserve all the credit though!

Because of the inclusion of an award being available on the Zone, I've made modifications to some levels in order for the whole set to be completed. Some of the tedious levels have been made easier as well (i.e. Block Buster w/o Slide Delay, Icedeath w/o the guesswork, etc....), since this is not for optimization purposes at all. Also not every level has a blob, though the first few that didn't have monsters originally I included one just for the laughs.

Follow rockdet's LP of this hilarious set on his YouTube channel as well!

Have fun and enjoy!

  Rejecting levels from MikeL3?
Posted by: pillowpc2001 - 24-Mar-2013, 7:36 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

(I was going to post this in the Level Discussion forum, but I couldn't make a poll there...)

In a rare turn of events, I might have 2 potential level ideas I might try and find time to work on in the next month or so... However, MikeL2 is unofficially "done" at an even 200 levels and I don't really want to add to the end of MikeL3 since it ends like CC1 with a buried exit. Slight smile Since I don't expect new level ideas to be a common enough event to call for a MikeL4, I thought maybe I would add them into MikeL3 and get rid of two of the levels from there. Which levels would you not miss if they disappeared from MikeL3? Or should I just add them to MikeL2...or make a MikeL4 even if it does end up being a tiny set?

I've put some of my least favorites of MikeL3 in the poll, but if there are any others you'd like to see replaced, feel free to post them as well...
