  CCLP4 Voting Has Begun!
Posted by: The Architect - 14-Jul-2016, 11:05 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (14)

Greetings, fellow Chipsters!

It's now July 15th, and that means CCLP4 voting has officially begun! As with CCLP3, voting is being hosted at pieguy's site. (Many thanks to pieguy for his contributions!) Head on over to the main voting page to download the voting packs and cast your votes.

About Voting:

- As with CCLP1 voting, the pool of eligible levels has been broken down into individual, randomly selected packs of 50 levels each. These packs, with download links, are listed on the main voting page. We are releasing 4 packs to start. An additional pack will be released each time a previously released pack receives at least 5 votes from different members on each level, as tracked by the "Minimum Votes" column on the main voting page. So the more you vote, the sooner everyone will have access to more levels!

- You will need to have an account and be signed in to it to access the voting pages for individual packs. A login prompt will appear if you attempt to visit a voting page without signing in. Alternatively you can sign in or create an account here.

- On the voting page for each pack, you will see a list of the levels in the pack, with a column for a "Fun" rating and a column for a "Difficulty" rating. The "Fun" rating for each level is the important one: it represents how strongly you feel that the level should be in CCLP4. The "Difficulty" rating is optional, but we encourage you to provide one, as it will be helpful in determining the order of the finished set.

- Important: When you're done, don't forget to save your votes by clicking the "Submit Ratings" button at the bottom of the page! You can also come back later to edit and resubmit your votes.

- Things like problematic time limits and level titles will be changed as needed in the final set. Please overlook any such issues during voting, and rate the level as though they were already fixed.

- We've hopefully caught all the busts in the submitted levels, but there's always a chance something slipped by us. If you find a bust in a level that's in voting, please report it to us and rate the level as though the bust was fixed. Then if the level is chosen for CCLP4, we will seek to work with the designer to fix the bust.

Note that while voting is ongoing, you can still nominate levels to appear in later voting packs. The deadlines for finishing nominating and voting have not yet been determined. When they have, this announcement will be updated with the info.

That's about it. Let's get voting and make this the most awesome CCLP ever!

  ...And I'm Back!
Posted by: M11k4 - 14-Jul-2016, 3:28 PM - Forum: Blog Station - Replies (1)

...which you might have known if you've been paying attention. I had a good clean break of one year from this game, and now I plan on hanging around for a bit again.

It's nice to be back. I see most of you are still here and even some new people have joined the mix. That's great! If our community wants to survive for another decade, we need new blood. Do hang around for a year or two, and maybe a couple of you will stay for longer. And for those that feel they've had a good time but need to move onto other things, do take a minute and say good bye. You'll always be welcome back!

Last year I got a new job and moved to another country. It was good to have a break from CC. Things have settled down a bit now, and it's good to not be away anymore. However, I'm going to try to manage my time and efforts better than I have in the past. There are simply so many interesting things to do in the CCverse that I will need some focus to get anything done without having it overwhelm my life. Mainly this means I won't be optimizing the official sets as much as I'd like but will rather try to chat and create content here. It's very likely you'll still see an occasional score report from me, and in particular working together with other people on problematic levels is something I'll gladly be doing.

I was going to list some of my goals and plans for the coming year, but now I feel like any such list would be lacking as I haven't yet totally caught up with everything in my mind. I did read my previous blog post and was happy to see I did most of the things I was hoping to do last spring. I would like to post on this blog about once a month if I can find the time. I would like to finish CC2; so far I have played half the levels. Of course I also need to sort out my scores and totals on the official sets, even without any improvements. I'll definitely be running some competitions and judging them, even though those always take up a good chunk of my available time. I haven't decided on what I will do with CCLP4 voting, but at least I'll keep an eye open. (To clarify, I don't know if I will vote on all the levels this time.) Finally, I have a ridiculously long back-log of semi-interesting semi-important projects that I'll try to wade through every once in a while. Slight smile

Thanks for having me back. Let's have a great time again!

Well where the heck have I been?
Posted by: geodave - 14-Jul-2016, 11:38 AM - Forum: Blog Station - Replies (2)

I guess it did take a year but now CCLP4 is sort of happening yay.

Also I'm getting much more into cc2. The tutorial challenge was awesome!

My personal life has gotten to be quite the complicated thing (more than usual...) but I am starting to free up a little time here and there. As the year goes on I should be around a little more often.

Anything in CC2 you wish was there but isn't? Someday we may have a tileworld version of CC2...might be able to enhance it a bit. Or maybe Chuck will take suggestions (which will probably end up in Chuck's Challenge).

Anyway -- when do we vote????

CCLP4 voting is soon upon us, and I thought I'd share the script I wrote to assemble the voting packs. It is available on PasteBin.

This Python script takes in an text file consisting of one or more lines of the filename of a level set and a level number, separated by a tab. It outputs a new level set consisting of the specified levels. Hopefully someone else will find it useful, and don't hesitate to ask questions about it Happy

July Mini Time Trial - Fool's Gold
Posted by: M11k4 - 13-Jul-2016, 4:40 AM - Forum: Competitions - Replies (14)

Some of us have been discussing about occasionally running shorter and more casual competitions. We finally got around to doing that on the Skype chat group, but figured it would be fun to share the opportunity with the rest of you as well. The level is by Flareon350 and it nicely combines collecting two types of objects. You can download it here:

http://cczone.invisionzone.com/index.php?/files/file/583-%7B?%7D/

This is a mini competition, so the rules are a bit different than proper Time Trials. We hand out some Chip Cup points as a small participation award, but more likely just playing a fun level is a bigger incentive for joining. You don't need to send or post your solution anywhere, just post your time below in this thread (or you may post other people's scores if they post them somewhere else first). So sharing scores while the competition is running is ok, but let's not share solutions just yet. After the deadline, it would be nice to see the quickest solution posted somewhere Slight smile

Here are how we'll try to give out Chip Cup points:

5 points - first to report the best time in either MS or Lynx

4 points - anyone who eventually scores a best time

3 points - anyone who had a pretty good time

2 points - anyone who solved the level (but I guess they didn't have a good time with it?)

1 point - anyone else who comments on having played the level

Let's see how this works. Oh, and I guess we need a deadline for scores, let's say the end of July where you live. And thanks to Josh for letting us use your level!

Enjoy!

A simple tweak to the MS ruleset that switches Chip's left/right and up/down tiles so he moonwalks everywhere.

Difficult to coordinate when playing, but fun to watch playback of a solution!
