Yahoo! Group message archive? |

First off, I'm pretty surprised nobody seems to have mentioned it here yet, even though the Bit Busters Club already grabbed the levelsets from there, but anyways: Yahoo! Groups is basically turning into an e-mail hub as of December 14, and losing everything else.
This includes not just the levelsets, but features like the messages posted there going back years. It was a great resource when I wanted to research how CCLP2 came about way back at the turn of the century, for example.
So I'm wondering: is anyone archiving these, or anything else from there besides levelsets?

I've been watching an LP of the voting for CC2LP1 on YouTube (it's J.B. Lewis, for those who are wondering), and while I've enjoyed it, I want to play it myself and vote on it myself. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do that. I've downloaded the Ember pack, but how do I actually play it? I'm not exactly knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of thing on computers.

I have gone to the old Chip's Challenge wiki site (which is no longer used) for the original CC1 maps, but I am unable to find them. Where can I go to find the maps of the original Chip's Challenge game?

November 2019 Create Competition - CC2 Telephone Theme |

Its been a bit since the last create contest we had and the community has been having some discussions lately and felt another one was in order and it ended up coming to me to host it. As the community (or at least the Discord server) seemed to want a CC2 based contest that's what I'm going with (CC1 levels are fine so long as they're ported, have a clear goal, and match the theme).
Which brings us to this month's theme, a telephone game style level. You create a small level (no larger than 15x15, doesn't have to be square however, and wiring can be outside the area if needed), and then repeat it but change a small detail, and then you repeat that copy and make another small change. The idea is that overtime it goes from one small level to another entirely in gradual steps, or it starts as a simple idea that's built upon each time until it turns into a full blown level at the end, or something else entirely, it's up to you! Specifically you can rotate the area, mirror it, change where you enter and exit, and even have it so that you need to bring in something from previous areas, just so long as there's not too many changes in one step. Finally is that the level doesn't need to be beatable, just have a clear goal (you can use a hint tile), and most importantly, be a new level created for this contest.
However seeing as we're already a third of the way through this month it would be cruel to have the deadline be the end of this month, instead the end date for level submission is December 8th, Sunday. This should give plenty of time for people to work on making quality telephone levels. Levels can be submitted to my Discord (A Sickly Silver Moon#4836) or DMd to me here on CCZone. I look forward to the levels people create for this!
tl;dr guidelines:
1. New level created for this contest.
2. Small area (no larger than 15x15), that's repeated over the entire level with a small change each time.
3. Doesn't need to be solvable, just have a clear goal (and a way to get to the next area each time)
4. Deadline of 11:59PM December 8th.
5. Submit to me privately.
6. Thanks to CV (Craig) for the original idea that I altered slightly for this contest.

Hello. I tried to join this site about a week ago, but have heard nothing. It also says above about my e-mail address 'that e-mail address is in use by another member' who is me! So I have removed the M from the beginning of my name i.e. Mike. So add an 'M' to get my e-mail address. Do not send anything to Ike, who doesn't exist!
Thanks. MJ.

Pairing Buttons With Clone Machines |

I'm finding that in the official CC2 editor I cannot determine the logic with how traps/clone machines/flame jets are paired with buttons. Can someone point me in the right direction as this editor is a lot less intuitive than ChipEdit for CC1.

making a"Walls of" of a random level |

I know y'all are busy, you can respond whenever you get the chance, but I would like to ask the community something because there seems to be no written rules about it.
Okay, is it okay to make your own "walls of" level of a random user-created level?
I understand plagiarism is a concern, but I think that it could work given the right circumstances.
Like making the level objective, concept, or contents totally different from the level you got the wall layout from. Also, no more than one level from a set or creator, or no levelsets made mostly of random "walls of" levels (of course, official sets are an exception).
I don't plan on making a level of this type, but I have been tempted to do one or two just as an experiment to see if I were capable of leaving in just the walls and turn it into something totally different, and just as fun, but I was like "maybe it's not something that's going to be well recieved".
So what does everyone else think?

Chip's Challenge in 1991 catalog |

There is available online a reproduction of a 1991 catalog of games for the Atari Lynx. Chip's Challenge got two whole pages devoted to it:
https://atariage.com/catalog_page.php?Sy...rentPage=5
https://atariage.com/catalog_page.php?Sy...rentPage=6
(Despite the website's labeling, this is indeed a Lynx catalog, not 2600.)
The different names given to things are amusing.
Also of interest are the maps and tips given for three levels: BLOCK FACTORY, NIGHTMARE, and PLAYHOUSE. The map for BLOCK FACTORY is especially intriguing, because it is different from the one in the actual game as we received it. Specifically, the force floors paths extend right to the top, making it more difficult to collect the topmost chip. I was wondering if this was perhaps an earlier version of the level, but that would be odd as this catalog was released well after Chip's Challenge.
There are some more clues, however. The map for PLAYHOUSE is missing a wall at (21, 16), which looks very much like a mere error on the part of whoever created the map. There are also two balls missing. The maps for NIGHTMARE and PLAYHOUSE do not, in general, show the monsters in their actual starting positions, and that for BLOCK FACTORY shows several blocks at the end of the force floor slide. All this points to the conclusion that the maps were not automatically generated from the level data, but manually put together by someone playing the game. This was executed imperfectly, and the different BLOCK FACTORY layout is the most striking mistake.
The catalog also has a page describing a contest:
https://atariage.com/catalog_page.php?Sy...entPage=27
Look at question 2.
