What CC Level Gimmick is Worse?

I'm asking a opinion on level gimmicks. Which one is worse?

  The Elevator Levels
Posted by: Hash1 - 16-Aug-2013, 10:10 PM - Forum: Under Construction - Replies (4)

Hi everyone, just stopping by CCZone: The next level now and then, and this time I'm here to announce a future levelset I have in mind with a theme: The elevator levels.

Now, don't ask me why, but lately I have been thinking of elevators (or, how Tom P would say: lifts Tongue )

And one day I had, not a brainstorm, but more like a "brain-hurricane" about ideas for elevator themed levels. I hope all of those ideas survive until the day I decide to start making this levelset, because although I'd love to start right now, I'm in a sort of "study or die" situation. But soon, I'll be spending most of my free time on this levelset. I don't know how difficult it will be, depends on my inspiration and how my level-making skills will be (if they improve or stay the same), and, most importantly, on ideas. However, since I've been already having ideas, I think it'll end up a pretty good and fun levelset. I think it'll be realesed in the late months of this year or early days of next year.

I estimate it'll be in between 30 and 50 levels, I hope no fewer, because I find less than 30 a little too short. I am looking forward to finishing and sharing this levelset, I'm saying this because my other one which I keep talking about, however, doesn't proceed. About that one, I'll start talking about it again when I see that I'm really going to work on it and put effort into it because I may be getting people's hopes up, for nothing, or for something that's not going happen until a long time. I've been having personal troubles with it (such as lack of inspiration, impatience. doing something else instead of CC, etc.) so that's why it has not been advancing.

So , there was a bit of stuff offtopic in that paragraph, now I'm back ontopic. The story will be something like: Chip was just about to exit the Bitbuster's building, he takes the elevator, it stops and stays stranded for some time. He waits. Nothing happens. He lays down. He stares at the ceiling, and is slowly becoming asleep, then he falls asleep, and has a long dream about the levelset, in other words, the levelset is the dream Chip has while sleeping, trapped in the elevator.

The rest of the story, I haven't thought of yet, or maybe I have, or maybe,... it's a surprise?

Well, there went some of the levelset infomation now, here's an interesting part; I will list some of the possibly future levels' titles:

-The right floor...

-Riding with other riders

-A building with no elevator

-A/The secret elevator

-An elevator with mirrors

-Freefalling elevator nightmare

-Going up, going down

-Destination: rooftop

-Emergency exit

-Get to floor 4 b4 4 (before 4 o'clock, this is probably gonna be a race-against-time level)

-The need to insert a key

-Jump to car #02

-Elevator music

-Ding!

-Elevator on fire

-Shafting

-Runaway elevator/(the) escaping elevator/the elevator escapes!

If you have any ideas, or title names, feel free to post them!

(or questions, suggestions, etc.)

An even smaller level project: rage.dat
Posted by: Chipwoodstock - 16-Aug-2013, 7:40 PM - Forum: Under Construction - Replies (5)

It's just one level, it's my first attempt at a "insane level". It's also, if I am not mistaken, the first that doesn't use glitches, but only legit gameplay. I dunno if this is worth a award request, but hey, it's just a kinda thing I did for no reason. It's name is rage.dat for you curious. The .dat is for download.

Download this here: http://cczone.invisionzone.com/index.php?/files/file/294-ragedat/

File category: CC1 Levelsets

My first try at an insane level. Also, please play on Tile World or an error will occur since there's no dummy level, not 149 levels, just a standalone level.

Cam's Challenge update... and a new levelset in works!
Posted by: Chipwoodstock - 16-Aug-2013, 3:41 PM - Forum: Under Construction - No Replies

First off, I want to discuss my levelset "Cam's Challenge". I know at this point I need to just get a new standalone tileset for Tile World, as the patch for the normal MSCC is added to the .exe, not the .dat instead. Even then, I want to have a smooth tileset. The issue is, MSCC has 32x32 tiles. But tile world... 48x48. I want to retain MSCC's size, but maybe make it a bit bigger like along the lines of the texture pack "Faithful x32" for Minecraft, but the big issue is that that is 16x16 to 32x32, which isn't adding 16x16, but MULTIPLYING by 2. As for levels, ideas for levels can't make themselves. So when I DO make levels, be patient.

tl;dr for this part: The graphics are for MSCC's .exe, I know how to make custom graphic sets FOR Tile World, the issue is getting my desired resolution, and levels for that might take awhile.

And now that actual announcement for the mini-project.

With that, I want to give info of my little mini-project. My new level pack is called "An Untitled Chip's Challenge Level Pack", or for short, "AUCCLP". You can also say "AUCCLP.dat" but it's just a opinion-based abbreviation. I will release a minor preview of the levels, for your info. The demo will for Tile World, by the way. That's all for now.

...Not Really Proof, but just some Award Ideas
Posted by: Chipwoodstock - 16-Aug-2013, 2:49 PM - Forum: Awards - Replies (6)

Don't worry guise, I will post proof for an achievement soon. Just not right now. And this is an idea, not a "MAKE THIS AWARD YOU *****!" thread. Sorry if this is the wrong spot for this kind of post.

With that, here's my ideas:

  1. "Nature's Fireworks": Winning "FIREFLIES" from CC1 without failure.
  2. "Special Pass": Winning "SPECIAL" from CC1 without failure.
  3. "Not The Bad Bear-n-Bird": Beat "Nuts And Bolts" at least 10 seconds less the bold time for MSCC (The bold time is 306 according to the CCWiki Page)
  4. "Difficulty Spike": During a Let's Play, Fail at "Nuts and Bolts"
  5. "It's A Shame": During a Let's Play, skip Nuts and Bolts when the game tells you too, but still beat levels afterwards.
  6. "Wear That Hard Hat": Submit a level to a collab CCLP, or submit a level pack.
  7. "The Cheat-like Reflexes": Beat 2 bold times
It's fine if none of these get made, I just wanna suggest these.

  "Devices"
Posted by: SimonL - 15-Aug-2013, 1:10 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

I enjoy building what I call "devices": Things that Chip never really interact with—or perhaps don't even see—that make some machinery going. A common very simple device is "the one-click button", which is a button that clones a block onto a second button (which you can't access otherwise), so that you can only click it once.

For example, I was very proud of myself when I was younger and invented the "toggle wall reset" device:

Clicking the red button (connected to the pink ball cloner of course) will reset all toggle walls to their initial state, no matter what state they're currently in. Sure, it is quite trivial, but nevertheless I find it interesting.

"Fireball, glider or both?"—a level I've made—is full of devices.

Now I wonder: What "devices" have you constucted or found in levels you've played?
