  Tile World 2 64-bit patch
Posted by: tensorpudding - 03-Feb-2012, 10:48 PM - Forum: Programs and Editors - Replies (22)

I recently tried looking at Tile World 2, and noticed that its 64-bit build would not handle TWS files properly. I tried to port a Tile World patch to fix this, because this bug was present in the last upstream Tile World release as well. I had been using the patch on TW 1 for a while and helped it get into the Debian Linux package for TW. My patched TW2 seems to handle TWS files fine now but has a lot of other problems including interface lockups that I'm not entirely sure is not due to the patch. I would suspect that it isn't though.

Another issue I had was a build failure on my system in one of the C++ files regarding a const cast. It compiled cleanly when I added the -fpermissive flag to g++ and the patch includes a change to add that flag to the build commands. I'm not entirely sure that this flag will work if you build using a different compiler or an old version of g++ though since I do not have an alternative to test it on.

Overall though, I do like the interface changes to Tile World 2 and would use it if the aforementioned bugs did not bedevil me. I am sure that once it has been fixed that it will be superior. Kudos to Madhav!

I'd include the patch in here but I'm not sure how to add an attachment...

  CC Comic

This is an original idea by James Anderson, wonder if he got it from the recent Andrew R suggestion to Madhav on the newsgroup, but anyway, he dragged me into it. So we'll both do some in our free times, we might make it a monthly or weekly event, depending on the flow of ideas.

He's my first CC comic, date of 02/03/2012. Enjoy!

WARNING: It contains one bit of swearing, so if you're offended by those, please refrain from viewing, otherwise, apologies!

On occasion, something useful comes up.

Today only, February 2, you can download the full version of Ashampoo's Snap4 from the giveawayOfTheDay's website for free. This is useful for screen captures and video editing.

In another post, someone had said:

Quote: "For those of us who don't have Chip's Challenge and therefore cannot use ChipCap, do you have any recommendations on how we should record AVIs of our Tile World solutions that do not reach the exit? ... "

I've seen this running on other forums with tens of thousands of posts.

Basically, it's just a matter of keeping a conversation going, but always having a subject to it and some relevance. The conversation will probably change as we go along as well. (if this doesn't work out feel free to move it to games)

So I'll start. What's everyone having for dinner today?

  Submission duration?
Posted by: tensorpudding - 01-Feb-2012, 9:40 PM - Forum: CCLP Discussions - Replies (10)

I was looking at the CCLP3 page since it was brought up in the newsgroup today. Is it normal for the submission period to last for so many years? Is this going to be the way it shall be with CCLP1, that is, expecting it to come to a vote in three years or so?

  Febuary 2012 create competition
Posted by: Lessinath - 01-Feb-2012, 4:17 PM - Forum: Competitions - Replies (18)

Create Competition Febuary 2012

The really important things:

- This level must be solvable in both MS and Lynx, but Pedantic compatability is not required.

- Email this level to Rockdet at rocket_rg (at) msn.com * Be sure to specify who you are and what competition this level is for.

*note: This isn't a direct email link to make it harder for spam bots scanning the web to grab his email address.

This is where it gets intresting. This is an experement. For science.

- This level must use the "template" linked below.

http://cczone.invisionzone.com/index.php?/files/file/43-febuary-create-template/

A few important notes:

- First, these are not rules, that would be too restrictive. They are useful notes and advice for what we're looking for.

- Second and most importantly, design something fun.

- Utilize the ouside walls, and open space between sections as you wish. There's a lot of open space because we want to see what you can do with this.

- You don't have to use anything there if you REALLY don't want to. Your level will be accepted and considered no matter what you do, however, levels that stay truer to the original template will be more likely to win.

- Moving the sections around will not count against you.

- One note about the ice slides: You can move them around without it counting against you, because we realize they may get in the way. Do try to keep the start and end points the same.

- You can change door positions and colors, except the green door maze, without it counting against you. Same goes for the keys.

- Levels with a canyon or wild west theme will recieve addititional bonus points.

These levels will be due by 0:00 GMT March 1, 2012. If you're not sure what time that is by you, submit it a day early (or earlier!) to be safe.

Submission requirements:

Email to rocket_rg (at) msn.com

You must list your username and the competition that your submission is for in the title. Keep it short and simple, something like:

""From Lessinath - Create Submission.""

...

I'm sorry for getting this up so late, I did not get a chance to do it before work.
