Quote:Anyway, Dave, you're free to call Elvis (or anyone else) overrated without building a fortress around yourself. Elvis may be canonized, but so what? Who cares about the rock canon? Listen to what you like, not what you're "supposed" to like.

Indeed I do. I will admit that Elvis was influential. He, along with Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard and others, helped bridge us from Sinatra to the Beatles. Which in turn led to truly great things like Fleetwood Mac and Yazoo.

I also want to plug the greatness of Shinedown. If you haven't listened to Sound of Madness, do check it out.

I actually quite like Sinatra, but I'll forever be glad that rock 'n' roll happened, allowing pop music to evolve as it did. I dig JLL and Little Richard, but my all-time favorite 50's rocker is Chuck Berry. Actually, like Elvis, I think he did his best work in the 60's, but all the same, I love his work.

Okay, now I'm bored with that topic.

I wish coloring your hair with koolaid was in when I was a kid -- I would've done it for sure. (Well, unless my parents prevented me).

Also, I miss being young enough to think Brio was cool. A little....

It wouldn't have mattered if Kool-Aid dye had been "in" when I was a kid; I always had ultra-dark hair. So ix-nay on that.

Looks like we have yet another yet another music discussion on a thread here...Slight smile

That being said, I've enjoyed just about any period of Elvis's career.

I remember watching the comeback special as a child and wondering "What's the big deal"?

It took me a while to get into the Comeback Special, even when I was falling in love with pretty much every other Elvis-related thing that I heard. I used to think that it was just a bunch of bellowing. Now I see it as a lot more than that...but fair enough if it's not your bag.

So, Kool-Aid.

According to the Urban Dictionary, we have quite a while to go before this becomes the Longest Thread Ever. Wink
