Completed All of the Official Sets
Posted by: The Architect - 13-Aug-2018, 5:52 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I have just posted proof of completing all of the official (Lynx-compatible) sets in Lynx mode. Together with my previous proofs-of-completion for MS mode, I have now posted proof of completion for all of the official CC1 sets in all compatible rulesets.

Of course, most of these sets I had already long since completed, in both rulesets. My purpose in playing them again and posting the score files as proof, was merely to earn the awards that used to be available on this site, so I could display the fact that I had completed all of the sets. Slight smile

I would still like to be able to display these awards, plus the various other awards for various cool accomplishments. Which leads me to ask: is it possible that the award system can be added back to the site? Is there anything I could do, with my entry-level web development knowledge, to help get the system back? Does anyone else out there even care about the system, or miss it like I do? Slight frown

  Other puzzle game recommendations
Posted by: andyrkki - 10-Aug-2018, 8:10 PM - Forum: General - Replies (15)

The reason Chip's Challenge stands out to me personally compared to other games, as I'm sure is the case for many others as well, is the relative uniqueness of the engine, and of course the replay value. Unless it's specifically made to be a CC clone, you won't find anything quite like it, and even the same levels can be played and/or optimized over and over again.

Of all the puzzle games I've ever come across, the only other one that fits the bill is Reflexion (and its sequel). It's so unique that its gameplay has been analyzed in a university paper! Just a shame that it doesn't even have an external data file to modify let alone an actual level editor... anyhow, here's a link to both versions:

UPDATED: "Native" MSCC on 64-bit Windows
Posted by: andyrkki - 10-Aug-2018, 6:21 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (25)

I can't be the only one who's literally wanted 16-bit support in 64-bit Windows for years, so that the original Microsoft version of the game could be run without resorting to virtual machines or even more ridiculous solutions. After all this time, someone finally made one, and I can confirm it works for MSCC:

https://github.com/otya128/winevdm/releases
https://virtuallyfun.com/wordpress/category/winevdm/

Also, for the complete nostalgic experience, here's how to get the help file working on Windows 10:

http://www.tonmann.com/2016/06/getting-w...indows-10/

Note that the latest version of WineVDM includes - among numerous other bug and annoyance fixes (no more required command prompt in the background!) - a WinHlp32 emulator as well, though there doesn't seem to be any way to integrate it into the system such that the menu options in MSCC work.

This is my TWS of SokobanCCLP.dat. 147 of 149 levels are completed and levels 144 and 149 are unsolved as of now.

If you're really good at sokobans, you can try to beat those two, but right now those 2 levels are close to impossible to me.

If by any chance someone beats those 2 levels please PM me and I will appreciate your help.

August 2018 Create Competition - Multiplayer Madness
Posted by: Ihavenoname248 - 02-Aug-2018, 4:29 PM - Forum: Competitions - Replies (2)

I promised I'd post this on the 1st but forgot oops. Anyway, my attention has been split slightly lately, with people visiting (hi Jessi, hi James, hi Shane) and I figure better late than never on this. Anyway, CC2 has this lovely feature called splitscreen multiplayer. It's horribly underused. Let's fix that somewhat.

Guidelines:

1. The level should be new, at the very least I shouldn't have seen it before.

2. The level must use the splitscreen feature of CC2.

3. The level does not have to be solvable but must have some sort of goal. If it's not solvable, a hint stating this in the level would be appreciated. Some non-solvable ideas can include a sort of versus mode, a race, even just trying to survive. Be creative!

4. The deadline is September 3rd, 11:59 PM or whenever I post the submitted levels, whichever is later. I'll give feedback on any obvious busts or flaws I see when submitted, but otherwise won't be giving thoughts until judging.

5. Submit your levels to either my Discord (IHNN#3459) or email (jbardonjr [at] charter [dot] net
). There is no limit on the number of submissions, as non-solvable ideas may work better in a small set with several maps for that idea.

6. The levels will be played by me and my brother, who goes by 263739 here. You might remember him as the creator of TOTALLY RANDOM MAZE, and some of the potential ideas outlined above were inspired by things he's done.

I look forward to seeing what gets created here!

Levels I built when I was 8-9 years old. They're silly. The whole set will only take around 10 minutes to complete. Enjoy!
