Here's just a few reasons:

1. New wave music

2. A temporary break in the worship of anorexia

3. Dynasty

4. David & David

5. MacIntosh

6. IBM PC

7. Red M&Ms

  Beatles discussion
Posted by: BitBuster - 21-Mar-2012, 7:28 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

...so that the "Where are you from?" thread can get back on track. Wink

Quote:Beatles' best works are all towards the end, no musician on this planet will ever deny that.

Just out of curiosity...do you think that the quality of music can be objectively measured, or are you using "best" in a less dogmatic sense?

The Beatles, like Elvis and Dylan and NWA and the Sex Pistols, were enormously influential. No one who knows anything about popular music can deny that. But this doesn't mean that you have to like them. I happen to love the latter four people/groups, but if I'm going to start singing their praises to a neophyte, the last thing I'm going to talk about is their influence. Perhaps some people listen to music as a purely historical exercise...fine. But I can't relate to that line of thinking. I listen to whatever hits me at any given time. I don't care about the culture in which a certain song was released; so what if "Hound Dog" scandalized a nation? That's not why I listen to it. I listen to it because DJ Fontana's drumming is the most manic drumming this side of Keith Moon, because the first bars of Scotty Moore's second solo sound like Samson tearing down the walls of the temple, and because Elvis sounds dangerously psychotic (I still have no idea what he's saying at the very end, but I suspect that, for my own sanity, I don't want to know).

So back to the Beatles. With two or three exceptions, I don't get any hit off of their songs. Are they well-produced and well-crafted? Sure. Do their albums show a sort of evolution (in sound and approach)? Of course. Are they terrible? No. Britney Spears is terrible. My Bloody Valentine are terrible. The Ramones are terrible. The Beatles are just mediocre (this is all imo, of course).

Why is there a "cancel" option while you're creating a new topic?
Posted by: BitBuster - 20-Mar-2012, 6:25 PM - Forum: General - Replies (25)

Picture this: you've just thought of the most amazing topic ever imagined in the history of the Internets (sic)(bear with me here). You've spent a good portion of your day typing out an insightful, original, thought-provoking post (bear with me here). Then you go to click "Preview Post," and instead, you click "Cancel."

Why does the "Cancel" option even exist? If you start to make a thread and then think better of it, it's not that hard to click back to the main forum (or to close the tab you're working in). I think the "Cancel" button just exists because the people who design forums secretly don't like people. Actually, it's really not that much of a secret, if you ask me. They make it fairly obvious. But they're tech geeks, and in 2012, tech geeks rule the world, so they don't fear much retribution.

Don't you hate it when that happens?

  What's your favorite font size?
Posted by: BitBuster - 20-Mar-2012, 6:22 PM - Forum: General - Replies (63)

I dunno. People like to go on and on about their favorite TV shows, favorite bands, favorite colours, etc. Might as well have a discussion of our favorite font sizes.

I prefer size 7. Not only does it save paper, but it's easier on my eyes, for some reason. I don't like large fonts. 12-point font looks weird when you print it out. Ditto for double spacing, but perhaps that's a subject best reserved for another thread.

Do you use slang terms that aren't native to your country?
Posted by: BitBuster - 20-Mar-2012, 8:07 AM - Forum: General - Replies (39)

I always use terms like "bollocks," "wanker," "tenner," "fiver," etc. I even tend to use the English versions of certain obscenities. Needless to say, I sometimes get odd looks during conversations.

  Good bye for now...
Posted by: Hornlitz - 19-Mar-2012, 6:04 PM - Forum: General - Replies (13)

Ok, this time I'm 85% sure this will continue for a long time, but I'm going to have to say good bye to you until probably either August or September this year. My school life and everything else has kind of crashed and burned over the last few months, and I can't take it anymore. This means that I will not be putting up any LP videos, aside from the one I may put up today. Also, this means I will have to resign my position as an MS tester for CCLP1. Regarding my sets, use the version I will upload today of BHLS2, and use BHLS1Lynx for the other set, which I also hopefully can get up today. You have my permission to use any level in those two sets in CCLP1.

Prayers would be greatly appreciated at this time.

So, farewell for now everyone, this includes on the CCBBC as well. I'll see you guys later.

Have you ever run over an animal?
Posted by: BitBuster - 19-Mar-2012, 4:07 PM - Forum: General - Replies (24)

I see dead squirrels, deers, etc. all the time along the roadside, but I've never actually hit one myself (thank goodness). I've also never seen anyone else hit 'em.

These are the things I think about when I'm driving around rural roads at night, and I'm paranoid about a fawn jumping out in front of my car.

  TomP1: 10th Anniversary Edition
Posted by: AdrenalinDragon - 18-Mar-2012, 8:12 PM - Forum: Under Construction - Replies (27)

Hey guys. It's time to reveal some footage of the upcoming 10th anniversary edition of TomP1. I originally had this idea after Rockdet struggled to finish the set so I wanted to change all of the levels. This version will be MS/Lynx compatible with all levels and will include additional level changes for all 149 levels. Let's start off with the starting point of level 144.

I won't reveal what the hint says, but it has something to do with that burnt Chip on the right. Tongue

Anyway, more level changes to reveal.
